Early 2025 “Giant” Airdrops: $625M JUP, 7% of SONIC Supply
Solana users may expect to benefit from at least two major token airdrops in January 2025 with hundreds of millions in tokens distributed to eligible participants.
Sonic Airdrop on January 7
The first event involves Sonic, a layer-2 gaming network on Solana, which plans to distribute 7% of its native token, SONIC, to users on January 7.
In an X post on January 1, Sonic revealed that only 15% of its total supply of 2.4 billion SONIC tokens would be available for trading on the airdrop date. Of this, 8% has been reserved for “early supporters”, while 7% will be airdropped to initial claimers. Users must join through TikTok, where Sonic has embedded its SonicX game to be eligible for the airdrop.

Similar to Telegram mini-games, the embedded game allows Sonic to reward TikTok users directly. Sonic previously raised $12 million in a Series A funding round in mid-2024 and partnered with Solayer, a Solana staking layer. By November, Sonic had exceeded $50 million in staked SOL within its delegation pool.
Jupiter prepares for $625M “JUPuary” airdrop
Jupiter, a decentralized exchange aggregator on Solana, is preparing to distribute approximately $625M worth of its native JUP tokens in January.
On December 27, Jupiter Uplink announced that 700 million JUP tokens would be airdropped to about 2.3 million eligible wallets, with a series of different qualifying actions that would see users earn larger amounts of JUP.

For example, users with over $800 in trading volume will receive 50 JUP, while those with $14 million in trading volume will receive 20,000 JUP. Additional rewards go to users who interacted with features such as Perps, dollar-cost averaging (DCA), or limit orders.
The Jupiter and Sonic airdrops follow the Pudgy Penguins airdrop, which distributed over $1 billion in PENGU memecoins to eligible Solana users, primarily those holding Pudgy Penguins NFTs. Together, these highlight a flurry of token distribution activity on the Solana blockchain.
