‘Altseason’ Ended in 2024—Bitcoin Dominance Must Hit 71% for a Comeback

Bitcoin Dominance Climbs as Altseason Comes to an End

Bitcoin’s dominance over the crypto market has surged, reaching 64% before slightly pulling back to 61%, according to Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView.

Popular analyst Rekt Capital suggests that altseason officially ended in late 2024 when Bitcoin’s dominance dropped below 55% in early December, marking a bottom. Since then, Bitcoin dominance has increased by 6%, reinforcing the idea that altcoins have entered a period of underperformance.

Bitcoin Dominance Needs to Hit 71% Before Altcoins Rally

Rekt Capital believes that altcoins won’t see a resurgence until BTC dominance climbs another 16%, pushing past 71%, a level historically linked to the start of previous altseasons.

“If history repeats, the real altseason that everyone is waiting for would begin once Bitcoin dominance rejects from 71%,” the analyst commented, sharing an illustrative chart.

This view contrasts with traders hoping for an imminent altcoin recovery, as Bitcoin continues to outperform most assets amid macroeconomic uncertainty.

What’s Causing Altcoin Weakness?

Other analysts remain skeptical about Bitcoin’s continued dominance growth. Titan of Crypto warned that BTC’s 64% dominance level was a bearish signal, citing a rare Gravestone Doji pattern on the Bitcoin dominance chart.

Meanwhile, Stockmoney Lizards attributes altcoin underperformance to several key factors:

The firm also pointed out that Ethereum (ETH) remains in a multi-year downtrend against Bitcoin, making an ETH breakout crucial for a broader altcoin recovery.

What’s Next?

With Bitcoin dominance climbing, altcoin investors may have to wait for the next altseason cycle to materialize. If Rekt Capital’s prediction holds true, a true altcoin rally may only emerge once Bitcoin dominance reaches 71% and begins to decline.
