Trump-Inspired Digital Cards Launch on Bitcoin via Ordinals
A new collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) tied to President-elect Donald Trump has debuted, with its first 160 items, the Trump Bitcoin Digital Trading Cards, launched on the Bitcoin blockchain using the Ordinals protocol.
A unique “Mugshot Edition,” which comes with 100 digital cards, is part of the NFT collection. The Magic Eden marketplace allows users who bought these cards and provided their Bitcoin wallet addresses to get their NFTs. According to the most recent information, 19 of the 119 available cards had already been manufactured, and the deadline for claims is January 31.
How Ordinals Work
Ordinals create one-of-a-kind assets on the Bitcoin network by inscribing data onto individual satoshis, the smallest unit of Bitcoin. The Trump Bitcoin Digital Trading Cards utilize “Alpha sats,” the first satoshis of each Bitcoin block, making them particularly unique.
Currently, six Trump-inspired Ordinals are listed for sale on Magic Eden. The lowest-priced card is listed at 0.25 BTC, while the priciest one is set at 9.8 BTC.
Ordinals Market Growth
While the Ordinals market slowed down in May 2024, with monthly inscriptions averaging between 13,000 and 35,000 until November, activity has picked up again toward the end of the year. According to Dune Analytics, monthly inscriptions rose significantly in December, averaging between 54,000 and 92,000.
Trump’s NFT Journey
This is the first Ordinals collection connected to Trump, though the President-elect has a history with NFTs. Over the years, he has launched multiple NFT collections, including four Trump Digital Trading Cards series, which feature images of Trump holding Bitcoin and performing his famous dance.
The most recent edition, America First, was launched in August 2024. This collection offers up to 11 exclusive benefits, including Trump-themed gold sneakers and a chance to have dinner with the former president. However, there has been no reported trading activity for items from this particular collection yet, according to the NFT Price Floor aggregator.
Sales Performance
In the last 90 days, the first edition of Trump-themed NFTs saw 2,180 sales, representing a 71.1% increase. Despite this rise in sales, the total volume decreased by 2.35%, totaling $330,774. Meanwhile, sales of the second edition surged by 151%, with 4,579 transactions, and the volume grew by 30%, reaching $147,605 in the same period.
